Rivals of Microsoft are to be consulted by the European Commission regarding compliance with an anti-trust ruling about Windows. The centrepiece of the ruling was that the company had to supply a version of the operating system without a bundled Media Player. Code had to be made available to rivals. Alternative Windows applications would be easier to develop, was the Commissions argument. Although Microsoft has agreed to the requests, an alternative Windows version is not available commercially. Since the court action was launched a number of competitors have made peace with Microsoft. In particular Sun is on much better terms. |
